HARTFORD, Conn. (June 28, 2016) — WNPR’s The Colin McEnroe Show was awarded first place in the “Interview” category by Public Radio News Directors Incorporated (PRNDI). Awards were presented at the organization’s annual conference in June and represented achievement in public radio during the 2015 calendar year.
The winning episode, titled “Beyond Mark Twain: A Conversation With Hal Holbrook,” aired in February 2015 on the eve of the legendary actor’s 90th birthday and featured candid stories about his life and career.
“We had to make some special arrangements for Mr. Holbrook,” said host Colin McEnroe. “[Producer] Betsy Kaplan booked him into a west coast studio and, because he likes a mid-day nap, we didn’t start recording until about 8 p.m. The result was that he sounded refreshed, animated, and expansive. We’re going to have all of our guests take pre-show naps from now on.”
“Congratulations to the Colin McEnroe Show team for this deserving win,” said Connecticut Public’s President and CEO Jerry Franklin. “It is especially meaningful because the PRNDI awards are determined by a panel of public radio news directors from across the nation.”
