Students from the Journalism and Media Academy Magnet School (JMA) at the Connecticut Public Learning Lab satellite campus won awards for two of their short films at the third annual Reel Youth Hartford Film Festival on April 25th. The students produced these films as a product of their after school Film Institute Internship.
Leslie Finch and the Whitmore Case, a film noir crime mystery, won for best screen play and The Cafetorium Twins, a short horror film, won for best cinematography.
The Film Institute teacher, Joshua Gaestel, said he was proud of his students:
The students worked hard on these movies, and it was great to see their creative talents recognized at such a great event. Expect more awesome movies from the Film Institute in the very near future.”
The Film Institute Internship is currently working on it’s next batch of short films, and is already looking forward to next years Reel Youth Hartford Film festival.

The cast and crew for these films included seniors Shannon Thomas, Tenia Franklin, Vi’Quan Herring, Bishnu Khatiwada, Odane Campbell, Shyiann Johnson, Samur Hewitt-Hendley, and Adrian Sanchez.
