Democratic incumbent Rep. Lucy Dathan has won reelection in the 142nd state House District race against Republican Fred Wilms.
As of Wednesday morning, the Associated Press reported 9,822 votes for Dathan to Wilms’ 6,973 votes and called the race for Dathan.
Dathan had taken the seat from Wilms, who was a two-term state representative in 2018, for the district which is made up of West Norwalk and parts of New Canaan.
Wilms surpassed Dathan in New Canaan with 1,067, or 55 percent, to her 827, or 43 percent, of the vote.
“As we look to the years ahead, we must find ways to move forward and not backward,” Dathan said in a statement Wednesday. “Together, we need to keep this state moving forward. I am up for the task.”
“Whether you voted for me or not, I hope you’ll join me. I am everyone’s representative and I endeavor to earn every constituents’ respect through my continued dedication to the district. It is an honor to take on this work with and for you,” she said.
On the Connecticut House of Representatives she will serve a two-year terms and will not be subject to term limits.
“I bring my 25 years of accounting and finance experience helping the state think more long term and start to get our state through the impact of Covid-19.” Dathan said on election day.
Lucy Dathan was born in St. Louis, Missouri and now lives in New Canaan.
She began her career as an auditor in San Jose, California after she earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business from Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California.
She worked as an auditor and certified public accountant, which took her to both Poland and London, before she returned to California 13 years ago.
She moved with her husband and three children, now aged 15, 13 and 11 to New Canaan in February 2015 from Palo Alto, California, where she had lived for 9 years. She has continued to work for Silicon Valley technology companies as their CFO until a career break in 2017 where she took time to focus on school volunteer activities and politics in New Canaan
Dathan served on the following committees: Insurance and Real Estate Committee, Connecticut General Assembly, Vice Chair Appropriations Committee, Connecticut General Assembly Human Services Committee, Connecticut General Assembly
Wilms, has lived in Norwalk since 1989 and was a State Representative from 2015-2019.
He is senior vice president at Webster bank and served, out of 187 legislators, he was the only one who is a banker, he said.
“I knocked on 4,500 door this season and really enjoyed meeting lots of people hearing their concerns, really feeling very connected to people in the district,” Wilms said on election day.
He said people were concerned about taxes, the state of Connecticut’s finances and the police accountability bill and regionalization and zoning.
“I feel cautiously optimistic,” he said.
