Slow down and enjoy time in the galleries carefully looking at a few works of art with an NBMAA Docent. Learn to look slowly, think deeply, and see things differently while making discoveries about works of art. This meditative approach to art uses simple mindfulness techniques that have proven to increase mental well-being and promote healthy living.
On November 8, we will slowly view one of the amazing works in our special exhibition Ellen Carey: Struck by Light. “My work involves the discourse around contemporary-based artwork it stands as a testimony to minimalism and abstraction; process within photography; color as subject; forms and feelings.”
We will contemplate work by American painter and teacher Robert Henri “Paint that over there as though the shawl itself were alive. Put a certain expression in the shawl. Try to give the sensation of the activity of her shoulders, the life in her.”
Lastly, we will slowly view realist painter Graydon Parrish’s work The Cycle of Terror and Tragedy: September 11, 2001. “At first, I learned that the world wasn’t quite ready for such a picture. I thought, on delivery, I would receive welcome hearts, but instead I faced some painful and vitriolic criticism.”
Join us for one or all of the Slow Art Tour series scheduled for November, February, April, and June. Engage in mindful tours through our galleries, and view these works of art with a new mind and new eyes.
