Slow Art Self-Guided Tour

February 14 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm EST

Go on a mindfulness Slow Art Self-Guided Tour through our galleries to view works of art with a new mind and new eyes.

Pick up your Self-Guide at the Front Desk anytime on February 14.

On February 14, our Slow Art Self-Guided Tour will focus on the theme of Love: Love of Place with Anila Agha’s Intersections, Love of Art with Jim Dine’s Heart at the Opera, and Love of Nature with Susie M. Barstow’s Landscape, 1865.

First, slowly view an amazing work from our special exhibition NEW/NOW Anila Quayyum Agha: Illuminations. “To clarify, my work is not about religions, but a contemplation on the nature of boundaries and alienation, and on the power of dialogue to transcend the barriers of gender, race, religion, culture and the natural environment that prevent the true intersections and exchanges between world populations/ cultures….. Starting with familiar Islamic motifs, that become re-interpretations of the original designs, allow me to infuse a contemplative focus suggestive of the underlying order of both the cosmos and the natural world through symmetries found in nature.”

Then travel into our permanent collection and view a work by American artist Jim Dine. “Millions…I have no idea but it’s mine and I use it as a template for all my emotions. It’s a landscape for everything. It’s like Indian classical music—based on something very simple but building to a complicated structure. Within that you can do anything in the world. And that’s how I feel about my hearts.”

Lastly, slowly view a work by Susie Barstow in our special exhibition Women Reframe American Landscape. “I will overcome every obstacle to success.”
