Jane Austen’s Persuasion and a Regency Tea

August 2 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm EDT

Jane Austen’s last completed novels was written between August 8th, 1815 and August 6th, 1816, and remains one of her most popular works. Persuasion is the story of a mature character exploring second chances. The story concerns Anne Elliot, an Englishwoman of 27 years, whose family moves to lower their expenses and reduce their debt by renting their home to an admiral and his wife. The wife’s brother, Captain Frederick Wentworth, was engaged to Anne in 1806, but the engagement was broken when Anne was persuaded by her friends and family to end their relationship. Anne and Captain Wentworth, both single and unattached, meet again after a separation lasting almost eight years, setting the scene for a second, well-considered chance at love and marriage for Anne. Join us to celebrate Jane’s literary accomplishment with a presentation by Kate Noonan on Jane and her novel, and then stay for a regency era inspired tea hosted by our Cookin’ the Books Club.
