Father Michael McGivney was born August 12, 1852, in Waterbury, Connecticut. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1877 and assigned to St. Mary鈥檚 Church in New Haven, where he founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882. Later he was assigned pastor of St. Thomas Church in Thomaston, where he died in 1890. His cause for sainthood was begun in 1997 and he was beatified in 2020.
Join Waterbury native, Sr. Veronica Sullivan, and Vice Postulator Brian Caulfield on a tour of historic places in Waterbury and Thomaston, including Father McGivney鈥檚 birth and death sites, the location of his boyhood home, Thomaston Opera House, St. Thomas Church, the McGivney statue and the McGivney family burial plot in Waterbury.
Also included: Mass at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Waterbury, followed by lunch in the church hall.
