Amanda Russhell Wallace: “Residence” exhibition

January 22 @ 9:00 am - March 8 @ 5:00 pm EST

Residence is the first one-person exhibition in which Amanda Russhell Wallace showcases a range of what she calls historical collaging. She approaches this method of bridging the past and present via predominantly lens-based, photographic work. In many ways, Residence is an umbrella for explorations of migration, genealogy, domesticity, and other broad parameters of home-making.

Wallace realized that through beyond thinking of home in the context of work about her family, she is interested in how home resides more broadly regarding Black American experiences. She asks: what does it mean to be a resident? What does it mean to be in residence? Or how does someone or something reside? And very importantly across all these, how are pasts residual?
