Public Invited to Join Live Studio Audience
HARTFORD, Conn. (February 4, 2016) – Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) invites members of the community to join the studio audience for Funding Your Future: A CPTV Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, March 1 at CPTV’s Hartford studios, located at 1049 Asylum Avenue. The event will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the town hall meeting at 8 p.m., hosted by journalist Diane Smith. The meeting will be broadcast live on CPTV at 8 p.m., with rebroadcasts on Sunday, March 27 at 7 p.m. and Monday, April 4 at 10 p.m. It can also be viewed on-demand at cptv.org after the show airs.
With fewer jobs offering retirement pensions, college debt on the rise, and an aging population, retirement is essential to Connecticut’s workforce. But with the average retirement account balance at just $27,000, thousands of citizens won’t have enough money to afford a comfortable retirement. During this live town hall event, a panel of experts along with studio audience members will discuss the impact of the retirement savings crisis, how it affects Connecticut workers, and the strategies that can be put into place to prepare better for the future.
Panelists will include:
- Kevin Lembo, Connecticut State Comptroller
- Sarah Gill, AARP Senior Legislative Representative
- Jamie Kalamarides, Senior Vice President of Institutional Investment Solutions, Prudential Retirement
- Cynthia Del Favero, CHOICES Regional Coordinator, North Central Area Agency on Aging
“Each panelist brings a deep understanding of the issues and will be able to inform our audience as well as answer any questions they may have,” said Town Hall producer Sara Conner. “I look forward to a dynamic, informative event.”
“This is a great opportunity to discuss the retirement savings crisis facing Connecticut,” said State Director of AARP Connecticut Nora L. Duncan, “but it’s an even better opportunity to let people know that there are steps we can take to mitigate that crisis. AARP is proud to be a part of this project.”
Admission to the town hall meeting is free, but registration is required, and space is limited. Register at CPTV.org/fundingyourfuture. Viewers at home are encouraged to submit questions to @CPTVOnline, by using #CPTVtownhall, or by e-mailing TownHallMeeting@ctpublic.org throughout the course of the meeting. Viewers can also dial 1-800-842-2788 to ask questions.
