Fourth installment of the Eucharistic Revival lecture series
Father Pierre Toussaint Guiteau CFR is a Freeport, Long Island, native who entered the Community of the Friars of the Renewal in 2008. He was ordained to the priesthood in 2018. Father PT, as he is commonly known, graduated from Kellenberg Memorial High School on Long Island and Ave Maria University in Florida. He currently serves as the director of the St. Francis Youth Center in the South Bronx and is a local superior within the Friars.
He took his name in religious life after Venerable Pierre Toussaint, a Haitian immigrant to New York who left us an enduring example of Christian charity and evangelization. A former slave, he was a barber, or hairdresser, whose profound witness led to his cause for sainthood being introduced and who is now entombed under the sanctuary in St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
His life as a Franciscan friar is in imitation of the Poverello – the poor one – of Assisi, who counseled his followers to be imitators of the Gospel. Father will center on the spirituality of the St. Francis, who had great reverence for Jesus’s Incarnation. We have the Eucharist because Jesus became man, in flesh and blood.
