Lich Gate Concerts in the Sheffield Town Park!

Come and enjoy the final concert of the 2023 Lich Gate Concerts series, on Saturday, September 16 at 4pm under the Pavilion in the Sheffield Town Park. The concerts series in the park is beginning to be known as “T**wood South,” but with much easier parking!
Artistic Director and Violinist Jorge Avila, also a Sheffield resident, has programmed a dazzling program of chamber music for string quartet, including works by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, also known as the “Black Mozart” (Caribbean-French, 1745-1799); Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Austrian, 1756-1791); Jessie Montgomery (American, born in 1981); and Johannes Brahms (German, 1833-1897).

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – Adagio and Fugue in c minor for String Quartet, K. 546
Jessie Montgomery – “Strum” for String Quartet
Johannes Brahms – String Quartet in c minor, Op. 51 No. 1

Lich Gate Concerts strives to bring live chamber music concerts in beautiful settings in the Southern Berkshires. Why “Lich Gate” Concerts? A lich gate is a covered gateway found at the entrance to a traditional English or English-style churchyard. It marks the transition from the secular world into the sacred. This concert series seeks to transport us from every-day life into the realm of music, which has the power to speak directly to our souls.
