This New Storytelling Project Showcases the Personal Stories of Cancer Survivors
HARTFORD, Conn. (October 19, 2015) – WNPR/Connecticut Public Radio is pleased to announce that it has joined with Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven for a new storytelling project, “Survivor Stories.” Through this project, stories of cancer survivors were recorded and will be aired on WNPR.
“Survivor Stories” features a series of two-minute stories that were recently recorded at Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven during intimate interview sessions. In these sessions, cancer survivors related their personal experiences, seeking to provide inspiration, hope and support, particularly to those newly diagnosed with cancer and their loved ones.
Beginning October 23, these stories can be heard Fridays on WNPR 3:04 p.m.
“We are thrilled to be bringing ‘Survivor Stories’ to the airwaves of WNPR,” said Jerry Franklin, president and CEO of the Connecticut Public, parent company of WNPR. “Using the power of storytelling, we hope to honor the experiences of some incredible survivors and their equally incredible supporters. We thank them for not only sharing their stories with us, but for using those stories to bring information and hope to listeners who may be going through similar experiences.”
“Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven is proud to partner with WNPR to give our patients a voice to share their personal stories with Connecticut,” said Peter G. Schulam, MD, PhD, Director, Yale Cancer Center and Physician-in-Chief, Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven (Interim). “No one faces cancer alone, and each survivor has a unique story to share. I am confident that each story will resonate with WNPR listeners, and inspire strength and hope.”
“Survivor Stories” is made possible in partnership with Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven.
